The System Administrator - Linux contributes to the successful operation of the IT infrastructure by providing installation, configuration, troubleshooting, security and performance-related system support services.

Accountabilities:
1. Performs system administration activities:

- Responds to, identifies and resolves or escalates issues reported by users.
- Configures computer systems and associated networks.
- Troubleshoots system performance issues: analyzes and isolates issues.
- Monitors, evaluates and optimizes system performance.
- Maintains network and system security and integrity.
- Designs and/or deploys networks and system components and changes.
- Creates regular and ad-hoc queries and reports.

2. Maintains IT documentation pertaining to systems and network.

3. Analyses project-related system administration requirements and collaborates with project managers to resolve issues.

4. Alerts the Director, IT Services regarding issues of concern.

5. Contributes to the productivity and success of the IT services team:

- Collaborates on the management of workloads, and the accomplishment of team objectives; plans activities, delegates tasks, monitors progress, provides assistance when necessary, and ensures results are accomplished within timelines.
- Contributes to the improvement of work processes and operational efficiencies.
- Provides coaching, mentoring, training and/or guidance to enhance the skills of other team members.
- Monitors own workload, provides regular progress reports and strives to increase productivity.

6. Contributes to the development and implementation of JEA standards and complies with established standards and practices; ensures service delivery meets service level agreements established with internal and external clients.

7. Contributes to the enhancement of the positive corporate culture within the company, and the reputation of the company within the community, sector, and industry.

8. Performs other related duties, within the context of the role.

**Job Requirements**

**Education**:

- Degree or diploma in an IT discipline, preferred.
- Foundation level Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), or equivalent, preferred.
- One or more of the following professional certifications, or equivalent, required:

- _Cisco Certified Network Associate_(CCNA);
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA);
- _Red Hat Certified Engineer_(RHCE);
- _Red Hat Certified System Administrator_(RHCSA);
- _VMware Certified Professional_(VCP).

Recent (within the past 3 years), related, experience, in a software development company:

- Must have 3 years of experience, working in a system administration and support role in an IT environment with Windows AD, MS Exchange, MS Share Point, Citrix Xendesktop, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Database and Middleware servers, VMware vSphere, Dell Network, EMC SAN, and Check Point firewall.

Other requirements:

- Must be eligible to work in Canada.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance as a condition of employment.
- Must be willing to work outside normal work schedule to achieve deadlines.
- Must be able to participate in on-call schedule.
- Must be able to provide basic support services for Oracle database operations.

Knowledge of:

- Business English.
- IT system administration, technologies, security, system management tools and management principles.
- Basic understanding of the interrelationships between information system infrastructure, operations and performance.
- Windows server Operating System and Active Directory.
- Linux Operating System.
- Microsoft Exchange and Share Point server.
- Network and firewall security.
- Citrix VDI.
- Storage technology.
- Hardware knowledge.
- Industry/JEA software development life cycle, technologies, and tools.

Skills and abilities:

- Windows and Linux server installation and administration.
- VMware virtualization installation and administration.
- Microsoft Exchange server administration.
- Microsoft Share Point server administration.
- Check Point firewall installation and administration.
- EMC SAN storage administration.
- Citrix Xendesktop MCS master image creation, deployment and administration.
- LAN/WAN/VPN administration.
- Able to provide basic installation and administrative services for Oracle databases.
- Symantec Backup Exec administration.
- Server patch management.
- Power and cooling in datacenter.
- Oral and written communication skills; presentation skills; technical writing skills; and attention to detail when communicating.
- Analytical and problem solving skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and consistently produce results within timelines.
- Able to ensure IT infrastructure changes are compatible with other aspects of information system operations and performance.
- Able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal/external contacts.
- Able to write Windows/Linux batch script, SQL queries.
- Able to use JEA
