**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Technical Services and receiving day-to-day direction from the Specialist, UNIX Hosting Services, the Senior Systems Administrator works as an operations resource primarily providing operational and technical delivery of UNIX and Linux-based operating system services for the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health).

The Systems Administrator provides support to the Enterprise Services Team with day-to-day operational and technical delivery and support of Redhat Enterprise Linux, HP-UX as well as Solaris based operating systems services.

The Systems Administrator provides analysis, development, implementation, and maintenance of the operating systems as well as related layered product software and hardware. This effort includes responding to Service Desk incidents as well as strict adherence to Island Health s ITIL-based Change Management policy and processes.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
Graduation from a recognized degree or diploma program in Computer Science, three (3) years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

**Skills And Abilities**:

- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to write in a variety of programming languages.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
