Stages Program Worker

**Role** **and** **Responsibilities** **(Position** **Overview)**
The Stages Program worker provides front-line service in the Stages Program. Stages provides a staged approach to the expansion of parental involvement with their children in care. It is designed to provide the Social Worker with information about the family's capacity to adequately care for their child. Workers act in conjunction with the philosophy, mission statement, objectives, and goals of the agency particularly in the area of stages planning and implementation in conjunction with the MCFD. Each family will receive up to a maximum of 10 hours per week of involvement time with the NIC staff and it is a voluntary program.
**Essential** **Job** **Functions**
∙Observing, supporting, and building family relationships with the agency philosophy and Big 7 in mind.
∙Ensure a strong, safe, and secure environment for all parties in care
∙Meet with families in their homes or communities
∙Cultural awareness of families being supported
∙Be adaptive to different family situations
∙Ability to assess volatile situations and provide personal safety
∙To effectively manage crisis in a home environment
∙To provide insight and parenting strategies in teachable moments
∙Encourage positive and healthy parent/child interactions
∙Develop and maintain an open and honest relationship
∙Personable, courteous and punctual
∙Referring family members to community resources dependent on their needs
∙Maintain professional boundaries
∙Knowledge of addiction and its impact on parenting
∙Identify when the parent(s) is/are under the influence of any substance or engaging in an unhealthy and unsafe conversation, interaction, behavior, or activity.
∙Respect the integrity of the family in maintaining confidentiality, when confidentiality is guaranteed
∙Support the family in their progress and communicate their successes to the social worker
∙Respond quickly to the emergent needs as identified by the MCFD, collateral contacts, and the family themselves
∙Interact in a professional manner to all collateral contacts external to the agency
∙Ability to think creatively as well as critically to provide the best outcome
∙Attends and organizes meetings when necessary
∙Be prepared and available when subpoenaed to court
∙Attend weekly staff meetings
∙Ability to provide feedback to team on program services
∙Ability to receive feedback from team on program services
∙Project a positive company image at all times
∙Required to remain up to date on all paperwork and administrative functions
∙Accurate, concise, and up to date reporting
∙Be organized and flexible ∙24/7 availability
∙Awareness and adherence to safety policies and procedures of the agency
**Qualifications** **and** **Education** **Requirements**
∙Post-secondary education
∙Work experience will be considered in lieu of education
∙Maintenance of a clear criminal record check
∙Valid class 5 drivers license
**Physical** **Demands**
∙Ability to engage in physical activities with the child(ren) and family
∙Ability to view and operate computer monitors
∙Oral communication over the phone and in person
∙Alpha/numeric keyboarding
Pay: $26.74-$32.51 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
