**Working for the Department of Medicine**
The Department of Medicine is the largest department in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, with over 250 academic faculty members and over 400 trainees (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and residents).The Department of Medicine's core mission is to undertake outstanding education, research and high-quality clinical care to provide the best possible health outcomes for Albertans. **Position Summary**
**Duties**
- Under mínimal supervision, reviews, becomes knowledgeable about, and adheres to multiple research protocols
- Develops excellent study-specific source documents and precise documentation
- Data entry in clinical studies and registry-based studies databases
- Transfer data from paper formats via computer, recorders, or scanners
- Organize spreadsheets with large numbers
- Curate data directly from clinical research
- Prepare correspondence, documentation, publication or presentation materials on findings
- Coordinates with radiology, laboratory, health records, collaborators, etc., as needed by specific protocols
- Organize and participate in study-related meetings, such as study conference calls and general research meetings
- Ensures source documents are received and reviewed (for example: ECGs, lab work, hospital diagnostic tests)
- Enter study information into the HERO ethics system, including annual renewals
- Screens and recruits potential study participants; obtains patient consents
- Patient education and counseling regarding protocol requirements
- Organizes ongoing patient follow-up, including arranging lab work and appointments as needed per protocol
- Use of data collection tools
- May be required to draw blood work with exact adherence to protocol requirements
- Participates in the division of Pulmonary Medicine's specific educational opportunities and meetings
**Minimum Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences or related field
- Minimum five years of experience with at least two years of research experience
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Experience with creating and/or managing RedCap database is an asset
- Comfort in interacting with electronic medical records (ie, Connect Care)
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to work in a team environment as well as independently with mínimal supervision
- Precise documentation skills/detail-oriented
- Ability to work efficiently in a professional and ethical manner in accordance with the University of Alberta policies and procedures
- Experience in venipuncture (phlebotomy) is preferred
