Reporting to the General Manager, Community Services, the Manager of Facilities oversees the operations, maintenance

and repair of all of the District’s facilities. The Manager is responsible for the management, coordination, budget

control, and staff supervision of the Facilities Maintenance department. This position plays a key leadership role within

the organization and is a member of the District’s Senior Leadership Team, and ensures the delivery of high quality

services through the provision of outstanding customer service and effective resource management.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

Without limiting the generality of the following, the Manager of Facilities:

- Contributes to the success of our team and creation of our thriving community, by fostering the District of

- Follows the District of Squamish’s Customer Service Guidelines to ensure the Delivery of Outstanding Service.
- Participates in the overall planning, administration and management of the District as a member of the District’s

Senior Management team.
- Fully responsible for the health and safety of employees, through ensuring a safe work environment and

understanding and adhering to the requirements of WorksafeBC and the District’s Occupational Health and Safety
Program.
- Provides leadership, direction, evaluation and supervision of employees. Plans, schedules, and assigns work on a

daily, weekly and yearly basis.
- Supports staff development by assessing and coordinating training needs, providing coaching, and sharing

knowledge and helping find creative solutions to challenging situations.
- Manages the Recreation facility staff responsible for the operation of the Brennan Park refrigeration plant, pool

filtration systems and building maintenance.
- Manages the custodial services of municipal facilities through supervision of custodial employees and

contractors where appropriate.
- Plans and manages all municipal building operations including but not limited to: renovation projects;
preventative maintenance programs; annual repair programs, HVAC maintenance; tenders and contracts for
building maintenance; building security and fire prevention systems and building envelope.
- Responds to emergencies to minimize risk of injury and/or damage and/or to render the buildings secure. Liaises

with security firms and RCMP as required.
- Responds to and coordinates completion of emergency repairs including engaging contractors.
- Reviews and assists with the development or modification of work policies, procedures, standards, specifications

and regulations including emergency work forces and equipment. Ensures that Building and maintenance
matters, policies, practices, procedures, and service levels as specified by Council and other and other regulatory
bodies are being observed and carried out in accordance with the _Local Government Act._
- Leads the development, scheduling and organizing of the long-term capital plan related to small capital projects

at District facilities including budget preparation through tendering and completion.
- Collaborates with other departments on the development and implementation of medium and large sized

capital projects at District facilities.
- Purchases material and equipment in accordance with the District’s purchasing policy and other regulatory

requirements.
- Prepares and manages annual operating and capital budgets and leads long-term financial planning for the

department.

**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Proven skill and ability to effectively lead employees.
- Ability to evaluate staff for the purposes of providing direction and development.
- Thorough knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and WorkSafe BC requirements.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, effective facilitation, negotiation, and

conflict resolution skills.
