WCMRC is hiring a **Full-time** **Marine Operations Manager - Port Captain **to work out of our **Vancouver, Nanaimo or Sidney location.**

Our operations team is comprised of professionals with diverse skills and experience. Their ability to effectively manage and direct spill response procedures within the first few hours after response activation significantly reduces the negative impacts oil can have on the surrounding environment. On a spill site, WCMRC personnel work to ensure that the situation is thoroughly assessed, response strategies are carefully devised, and resultant countermeasures are quickly deployed.

The Marine Operations Manager will be responsible for:

- Support all Designated Person Ashore, safety and environmental initiatives related to WCMRC fleet operations.
- In concert with the WCMRC training department, develop marine training curriculum and standards for all positions, on all vessels, in the WCMRC fleet.
- Develops, refines, and implements the WCMRC train, competency sign-off and ongoing currency training program for all vessel operators.
- Conducts regular and routine check rides to verify vessel operator competency.
- Develops and implements passage/route planning processes for WCMRC and approves routes and plans from a marine SME viewpoint.
- Is the primary marine Subject Matter Expert (SME) (conducting consultation as necessary) for:

- o Any marine safety near misses or incidents. Supports investigations with SME.
- o Any new construction inputs.
- o The development of any needed policies or procedures to support WCMRC marine operations.
- Provide feedback to Operations Managers on individual vessel operator competency in support of the Performance Evaluation process.
- Through collaboration and consultation, develops such Standard Operation Procedures to ensure industry best practices for critical maneuver procedures, voyage planning procedures, bridge resource management, towing, mooring, and others as needed.
- Implement an effective paper and electronic chart corrections program.
- Provide SME advice and guidance on ballast water management, waste disposal and other mandated programs.
- Represent WCMRC at PACMAR and eNavigation and other marine conferences and meetings.
- Liaise with Transport Canada, Class and other regulators on any issues related to the safe and professional operation of WCMRC vessels.
