**WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR**:
We are seeking an External Relations Assistant who is inspired by our mission, demonstrates a high level of motivation, is willing to accept new challenges, and has the ability to balance diverse workloads to meet deadlines despite pressure and periodic interruptions. Reporting to the Vice President, External Relations, the position will focus on event management and a variety of communications, alumni relations and marketing projects.
**WHAT WILL YOU DO**:
- Maintain St. Mary’s University’s integrity, branding, messaging, and mission toward becoming Canada’s preeminent Catholic university.
- Work with and be mentored by the Communications and Events Officer to create operational plans for St. Mary’s golf tournament, Mary’s Festival, and Inspiration Unplugged, including budget, goals and identification of target audiences.
- Assist staff with event planning, on-site event logistics, and activation, including supporting volunteer event committees through the coordination of committee meetings, materials preparation, room set up/take down, and documenting minutes or notes of actions and decisions.
- Assist in the preparation and execution of community outreach and donor/supporter communications - written and verbal - using digital and traditional methods that will be aligned with the inaugural campus-wide marketing and communications plan.
- Fundraising support through data input, analysis and reporting using Raiser’s Edge as identified by the Manager, Donor Relations & Stewardship.
- Additional event and External Relations priority program support as needed.
**QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES**:
- Previous work or volunteer experience in event logistics, communications and/or fundraising.
- Demonstrate superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service ethic.
- Demonstrate ability to multitask diverse workloads and projects.
- A professional and outgoing manner and ability to interact tactfully and diplomatically with a wide variety of people.
- Demonstrate ability to work within a team environment but also to work autonomously.
- Proficient skills for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X and LinkedIn)
- For occasional work-from-home opportunities, must have own computer with online meeting capabilities.
- Flexibility with work schedule to allow for some meetings and events that may be held outside 8:30am-4:30pm or as needed (ex. early mornings, evenings and weekends)
- A valid Alberta Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to promote, or at least respect, the institution’s Catholic mission and identity
- Ability to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as Truth and Reconciliation.
- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
- With the exception where an individual has a disability or a legitimate barrier to availability, the individual will work a minimum of 30 hours per week for a period of six to sixteen consecutive weeks, and the hours of work will not exceed 37.5 hours per week.
- Work duties and activities must be completed inside of Canada.
- Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act_, and is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
