**POSITION TYPE**:Full Time, Temporary (Summer Job) - Job, 8-16 weeks depending on if the position is successfully funded
**LOCATION**:Calgary, Alberta

Discovery House Family Violence Prevention Society provides a continuum of care and integrated wrap-around services to women and their children fleeing domestic violence. We facilitate transitional housing and offer longer-term, safe places for women and children to call home while they begin to rebuild their lives. What You’ll Do:
The child care worker assistant will provide valuable support to our Child Development Workers and Case Managers, enhancing our ability to serve children and families during the busy summer months. This position is ideal for students with a background in child development, early childhood education, or related fields.
**Program Support and Child Engagement**
- Assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate activities for children aged 0-5
- Support the coordination and execution of summer camps and off-site activities
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and nurturing environment in the Child Development Centre
- Assist with setting up and cleaning up activity areas
- Engage children in play-based learning activities that promote emotional, physical, and cognitive development
- Assist in supervising children during indoor and outdoor activities, always ensuring their safety
- Support the implementation of behavior management strategies as directed by senior staff
**Administrative Support**
- Assist with booking coordination and family orientations to the Child Development Centre
- Help maintain accurate documentation of daily activities and children's progress
- Support the organization and preparation of materials for developmental assessments and interventions
**Family and Team Collaboration**
- Interact positively with caregivers, providing basic information and support under supervision
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for program improvements
- Assist in facilitating smooth transitions for children entering the agency's programming
**Special Projects**
- Support the planning and execution of special events
- Assist in creating and organizing program materials
- Help with data entry and file management
**Community Engagement**
- Accompany and assist staff during off-site activities and summer camps
- Help create a welcoming atmosphere for children and families participating in programs
- Support the implementation of safety protocols during community outings
This role may involve occasional evening shifts to support special events or programs, ensuring flexibility and adaptability in scheduling.
What You’ll Bring:
- Current enrollment in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child & Youth Care, or related post-secondary program (minimum 1st year completed preferred)
- First Aid/CPR-C (or willingness to obtain before start date)
- Experience with children/youth through volunteering/placement in childcare settings, camp counseling or educational programming
- Ability to implement supervision protocols during off-site activities
- Basic knowledge of how to plan and facilitate play-based learning including recreational, cultural, STEM, and social activities for children of all ages
