Discovery House Family Violence Prevention Society provides a continuum of care and integrated wrap-around services to women and their children fleeing domestic violence. We facilitate transitional housing and offer longer-term, safe places for women and children to call home while they begin to rebuild their lives. Discovery House is about hope and healing using trauma-informed care practices.

What You’ll Do:
The Summer Project Assistant (Administrative Support) will provide crucial support across various departments, adapting to the organization's evolving needs. This dynamic position offers exposure to multiple aspects of non-profit operations, making it ideal for students seeking diverse experience in the sector. The Project Assistant can prioritize competing tasks, communicate with the team clearly, has sound judgement, and has the people skills to be kind but decisive.
- Provide primary support to the Community Engagement department, while assisting other departments as needed.
- Assist execution of agency and community events, including meeting with the event organizers and reporting back on your progress regularly, liaising with vendors and suppliers, representing Discovery House with professionalism, preparing event materials such as decorations, signage, and more, on-site event support and logistics management, supporting the creation and distribution of marketing materials for events and initiatives.
- Support donation coordination efforts, including assisting with donation pick-ups and deliveries. maintaining accurate records of donations received, helping to organize and inventory donated items
- Assist in volunteer coordination for events, including recruitment, scheduling, and recognition
- Provide general administrative support across departments, including data entry, filing, and document preparation.
- Help maintain databases, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of information.
- Assist with post-event analysis and reporting, including compiling feedback and financial data.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals and objectives.
This role may involve occasional evening shifts to support special events or programs, ensuring flexibility and adaptability in scheduling.
What You’ll Bring:
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program, preferably in Event Management, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. Coursework in social innovation, non-profit Management, social justice and social work are highly relevant; please let us know if you’ve enjoyed courses or projects that you feel are relevant to this job.
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated interest in non-profit work and community engagement
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for event support
- Previous experience in event planning or fundraising is an asset
- Familiarity with donor management software is beneficial but not required
