The Payroll & Benefits Specialist is a key member of our Human Resources team who ensures that all aspects of the payroll cycles and the benefit programs are processed in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with Company and government policies. This position is our HRIS guru who helps to ensure proper coordination between payroll, benefits, human resources, and other departments to foster superior execution of our total rewards program.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Ensure timely and accurate preparing, processing, reporting, and auditing of payroll transactions for Canadian and US employees for the salaried and hourly pay groups.
- Ensures timely and accurate information updates in the HRIS including new hires, terminations, pay changes, incentive/bonuses or other compensation, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, and other information.
- Prepare records of employment, administer year-end reconciliations, preparation of T4, W2 and related summaries.
- Prepare reports on metrics such as wage and salary history, turnover rates, benefits enrollments, and other employee data as requested.
- Responsible for the benefits enrollment process; ensuring benefit plans are accurately set up, and confirming eligibility and accuracy of employee enrollments, including but not limited to Group Retirement Savings, 401k, and applicable health plans (Canada & USA).
- Provide insight into the creation and implementation of payroll/HR policies and procedures; review related processes for efficiency, and payroll / HRIS software and process improvement opportunities.
- Assist with related audits and legislative filings and reporting.
- Ensures accurate and timely tracking and compliance of company pay and benefit policies, including paid time off, and time and attendance.
- Verify the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims and costs. Resolve administrative problems with the carrier representatives.
- organizes and conducts training and information sessions for existing and new staff as required.
- Coordinates and interacts with federal, provincial, and state (US) entities on special inquiries related to employee payroll & compensation.
- Ensure the company remains fully compliant with all payroll regulations and employment standards. Actively follows and incorporates payroll regulation changes.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in business administration, accounting, or human resources
- Minimum 5 years’ experience processing payroll for a medium to large business (150+ employees).
- PCP designation required. CEBS designation is an asset.
- Knowledge and understanding of current payroll, wage, labour, and benefit laws and regulations.
- Experience with United States & International payroll and benefits is a strong asset.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Calendar, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, Excel
- Knowledge of ADP Workforce Now, or other HRIS systems
- Experienced in creating and preparing detailed payroll reports and various HR metrics and dashboards.
- Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
- Must be self-motivated with a drive for continuous improvement.
- Must be able to handle multiple, complex tasks and deal with pressure daily.
- Must have the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with sound judgment and tact.
