**Position Summary**
Reporting to the Executive Director_,_ the Human Resources (HR) Manager serves as the steward of the Alberta SPCA’s most valuable asset—our people. In this role, the HR Manager will orchestrate the effective utilization of human resources to achieve our strategic goals and objectives. As a strategic partner to all levels of employees and management, the HR Manager’s responsibilities encompass the full spectrum of HR functions, including personnel management, recruitment and retention programs, professional development initiatives, and other critical human resource programs.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Provide strategic oversight on all Human Resources functions, including planning, organizing, and evaluating departmental needs.
- Champion and promote a vibrant and inclusive employee culture by organizing events, initiatives, and programs that celebrate diversity, teamwork, and employee achievements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies that enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
- Collaborate with department leads to assess HR requirements and craft tailored solutions to address identified gaps effectively.
- Identify training gaps and collaborate with department heads to design tailored training and develop initiatives that enhance employee skills, knowledge, and performance.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in training and development, integrating innovative learning methodologies and technologies to enhance program effectiveness.
- Collaborate with the Director of Operations to develop and implement OH&S policies, procedures, and initiatives that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a safe work environment.
- Support the leadership team with end-to-end recruitment process, including job postings, resume screening, scheduling interviews, conducting interviews, and facilitating the selection process.
- Lead new hire orientation and onboarding activities to ensure a smooth transition for new employees into the organization.
- Provide expert guidance and support to employees and managers on HR-related matters, including employee relations issues, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
- Lead the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures in compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations.
- Maintain accurate employee records and manage vacation tracking to ensure data integrity and compliance with record-keeping requirements.
- Administer employee benefits programs and serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries related to benefits.
- Develop and administer a variety of HR-related letters, memos, and other administrative documentation, including employment contracts, offer letters, and policy updates.
- Oversee and provide support to others with offboarding activities; Conduct exit interviews and analyze data to identify trends and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications include**:
- A minimum of 5-years of progressive Human Resources experience is required.
- 1-2 years of leadership experience is preferred.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, business, or other related field is required.
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of the organization, with a genuine passion for improving the welfare and protection of animals.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office products.
- Experience using BrightHR is considered an asset.
- Thorough understanding of Alberta employment laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategic HR initiatives that align with organizational goals and support the mission of the non-profit.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex HR concepts and information to diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Commitment to upholding ethical standards and confidentiality in all HR practices and interactions.
- Self-directed in their work, with a capacity to take direction and work collaboratively as part of a team.
**Requirements include**:
- Possession of a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s licence with access to a vehicle.
- Clear Criminal Record Check
**Working conditions**
- Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
- While performing job duties, employees may be exposed to the following:
- Mostly sedentary office work.
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Occasional travel (e.g., delivering and picking up materials).
