Established in 1982, Eldercare’s work includes:
- enriching the lives of seniors living in long-term care
- helping seniors struggling with chronic illness to continue living safely in their own homes
- supporting research and education initiatives aimed at improving the care that seniors receive
At present, more than 2,000 Vancouver Island seniors are touched by Eldercare programs each month.
**Position Overview**
Reporting to the Executive Director, and working closely with the Donor Relations and Program Manager, the Bookkeeper and Administrative Assistant position is responsible for providing office support, clerical, and daily bookkeeping tasks to ensure Eldercare adheres to best practices and requirements for charitable business operations and reporting. Confidentiality, efficient time management, excellent organizational skills, and attention to accuracy are essential qualifications for this position, as is the ability to communicate clearly.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Support the maintenance of accurate financial records, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, filing, and tracking and reporting with QuickBooks online.
- Provide information to the external accountant in a timely manner as needed for the production of financial statements, audits, and charitable reporting.
- Generate financial reports and assist in financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning.
- Maintain an accurate and organized file system.
- Provide clerical and administrative support to the Eldercare staff as requested by the Executive Director.
- Assist with tracking of grants, and reporting to funders
- Award and bursary tracking: maintain records for Eldercare education awards, research awards, bursaries, and scholarships.
- Data entry: Support gift entry and receipt production for Eldercare donors.
- Office Administration: Assist with general office tasks and reception duties, including inventory management and administrative support for the team.
**Qualifications**
- Degree or certificate in accounting, bookkeeping or business administration, or equivalent business experience
- Knowledge of charitable bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles
- QuickBooks and Excel expertise
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to understand financial data, processes, and procedures
- Perform job responsibilities in an efficient and timely fashion.
- General computer proficiency including Word, with Raisers Edge or similar CRM experience also considered an asset
- A high degree of attention to detail, accuracy, and organization
- Friendly and customer service oriented
- Commitment to the well-being and dignity of the elderly population
**Working Conditions**
- While specific hours are flexible, this position will generally feature a set office schedule, with only occasional flexibility needed for evening or weekend functions.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check to work with a vulnerable sector
**Salary and Benefits**
