The internship, running from May to August 2026, offers a hands-on opportunity to learn about the entire employee lifecycle, while contributing to meaningful projects that support our people, culture, and organizational effectiveness. Who we are   At the Pembina Institute, it’s all hands on deck and it has been for the last 40+ years.     Our 55+ person team, distributed across the country, are passionate and dedicated, but we don't sweat the small stuff. We’re too busy tackling one of the most important issues of our time: Canada’s clean energy transition.    In that transition, we don’t leave anyone behind and believe each member of our team plays a critical role in achieving our goals . We ensure equity but promote individuality. We lead with curiosity — challenging our own ideas and limiting beliefs, being open to diversity of thought and opinion. We use evidence-based thinking to inform our recommendations to decision-makers and understand that to make long-lasting changes, we need to take a practical approach when collaborating with others.     Our commitment to responsible development, and our “tough, but fair” approach, using research, consulting and convening, gives us credibility with decision-makers whose actions today are setting the direction for the planet. Are you ready to join us?   Who we are The Human Resources team is responsible for supporting the entire employee experience at the Pembina Institute including recruitment and onboarding, learning and development, performance, engagement, and offboarding. The opportunity As a Human Resources Intern, you will support the HR team with a mix of special projects, administrative coordination, and process improvement work. You’ll gain exposure to a broad range of HR functions while contributing to initiatives that strengthen how we support our people. This role reports directly to the Human Resources Manager and is ideal for a student interested in building a foundation in human resources within a values-driven, fast-paced organization. Your key responsibilities Maintain HR records, templates, and documentation to support day-to-day HR operations. Support special projects and data initiatives, including HR trackers, reports, and dashboards, ensuring information is accurate, well-organized, and summarized to support decision-making Coordinate logistics for HR initiatives, training sessions, and employee experience activities. Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to advance HR programs and initiatives. What we’re looking for You are a student enrolled in human resources, business, commerce, psychology, organizational development, or a related field of study at an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution. You’re eager to learn, highly organized, and interested in how people, culture, and systems come together to support organizational success. What you bring Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and a high level of comfort working with data to update HR trackers, reports, and dashboards. Strong organizational and time management skills; being self-motivated and results oriented Detail  oriented with a high standard for accuracy and quality. Adaptable and able to manage changing priorities. Professional, and approachable when interacting with employees and stakeholders; with strong written and verbal communication skills.
