The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is an arm's-length federal agency responsible for the shared stewardship of the lands and waters that make up the Port of Vancouver, Canada's largest port. Our mandate, as outlined in the Canada Marine Act, is to enable Canada’s trade objectives on behalf of all Canadians, ensuring goods are moved safely through the Port of Vancouver, while protecting the environment and considering local communities.
Located on the southwest coast of British Columbia, the port extends from Roberts Bank and the Fraser River up to and including Burrard Inlet. Geographically, the port is about the same size as the next five largest Canadian ports combined. Its jurisdiction includes more than 16,000 hectares of water, more than 1,500 hectares of land and hundreds of kilometres of shoreline, bordering 16 municipalities and intersecting the traditional territories and treaty lands of 35 Coast Salish Indigenous groups.
Trade through the port connects Canadian businesses to international markets and consumers with the variety of products that we use every day from markets across the globe and generates tax revenues and secure employment for local communities. Home to 29 major terminals and more than 1,000 tenants, the port is the most diversified cargo-handling port in North America.
As a key member of the senior leadership team at the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, the Director, Strategic HR Business Partner champions the organization’s purpose of enabling Canada’s trade by being reliable and innovative, while protecting the environment through providing leadership to the port authority’s Human Resources Business partner and organizational learning and development functions. With respect to the Human Resources Business Partner function, the Director, Strategic HR Business Partner plays a crucial role in overseeing complex workforce planning in support of the organization’s business objectives and infrastructure projects, in addition to providing guidance to the HR Business Partner team in support of their internal client groups. On the Organizational Learning and Development front, the Director, Strategic HR Business Partner oversees the strategic learning and development program for the port authority, including the design, implementation, delivery, evaluation and management of organization development and training programs.
The ideal candidate will be seasoned HR professional that is well versed in operating within a complex infrastructure/project development environment, with a proven track record of leading HR Business Partners and implementing progressive HR structure policies and programs. Completion of a university degree, ideally combined with a CPHR designation and a thorough understanding of workforce planning, current human resources best practice and project management experience will be key to success in the role. Experience leading the organizational learning and development function for an organization. Excellent communication and public speaking abilities will enable them to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders. Strong customer service, combined with effective decision-making, strategic planning, and proactive initiative, will contribute to the success of this role. Additionally, fostering the development of internal emerging leaders will further enhance our team's growth and performance.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please submit your resume and any other relevant application material to Brandon.Lau@portvancouver.com. All your personal information will be held in strict confidence.
