**HR Business Partner**

The HR Business Partner is a key member of the Human Resources Team reporting to the Sr. Director, Human Resources and primarily responsible for providing leadership and generalist support to all western retail store locations including our distribution center. This is both a strategic and tactical role providing HR leadership direction and services consistent with our MEC values and purpose of vision of having the most knowledgeable and engaged staff and culture that makes MEC a destination employer.

**Note: The HR Business Partner role is based in Vancouver and supports the Western region (BC and Alberta). The expectation is to spend time in each of the following store locations: Vancouver, North Vancouver, Victoria, Langley, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, Edmonton South, along with the Western Distribution Centre based in Surrey, BC.**

**Specific Duties and Responsibilities**
- Act as a trusted advisor, thoughtful sounding board, and business partner for the regional leadership team as the expert on people and organizational issues.
- Champion the MEC culture and values, partnering with leaders to ensure a highly engaged workforce and positive employee experience.
- Collaborate and partner with leadership to develop and implement new and innovative solutions to help drive key people
- and culture-focused initiatives, including talent acquisition, compensation, performance management, career development, and succession planning.
- Build strong relationships throughout the region to identify issues and provide effective solutions and advice when opportunities to improve are identified.
- Lead talent management efforts including talent assessment, succession planning, and career development to build a robust leadership pipeline.
- Serve as an advisor and coach to employees around career development and performance improvement.
- Manage and resolve complex employee and labor relations issues and conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations, as needed.
- Provide expertise on laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management.
- Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director, HR and/or CHRO.
- This position has no direct reports.

**Experience and Skills**
- 3-5 years of progressive HR experience, and preferably in the Retail environment.
- CHRP designation or degree in related field.
- Experience in unionized environments would be an asset - not essential.
- Proven track record partnering and supporting business units, with strong ability to problem solve, manage conflict, navigate ambiguity, and establish/maintain working relationships with employees at all levels.
- Ability to work strategically and execute tactically.
- Demonstrated ability to influence, partner and build trusting relationships with leaders.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills; exhibits high levels of emotional intelligence.
- Broad knowledge of HR practices including talent acquisition, performance management, employee relations, labour relations, benefits, and compensation.
- Knowledge of Canadian and provincial employment laws and regulations, specifically in BC and Alberta.
- Ability to exercise sound independent judgment, stay calm under pressure, and handle multiple issues that can be of a sensitive nature.
- Located in Vancouver with 25% travel required.
