About the role

The Director of Human Resources - Employee Relations is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing and enhancing employee relations practices within the organization. This role will conduct internal assessments, perform market research on future-forward employee relations practices, and provide recommendations for establishing a Center of Expertise in Employee Relations. The Director will also develop a comprehensive action plan and timeline to implement the Employee Relations Center of Expertise. The director will also lead the implementation of a technical solution in Workday to manage Employee Relations.


This is a strategic mandate to review and implement a refreshed approach on ER and length of mandate will be flexible
and up to 12 months


What
you’ll do here:


Internal Assessment of Employee Relations Practices:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of current employee relations practices within the organization.

  • Identify strengths and areas for improvement in existing employee relations policies and procedures.

  • Collect and analyze data on employee satisfaction, engagement, and retention related to employee relations.

Market Research on Employee Relations Practices:

  • Perform comprehensive market research to identify emerging trends and best practices in employee relations.

  • Benchmark the organization’s employee relations practices against industry standards and competitors.

  • Stay updated on legal and regulatory changes in Canada that impact employee relations.

Recommendations for Center of Expertise:

  • Provide strategic recommendations for establishing a Center of Expertise focused on employee relations.

  • Define the vision, mission, and objectives of the Employee Relations Center of Expertise.

  • Identify the necessary resources, including employees, technology, and budget, required to establish the center.

Action Plan and Timeline:

  • Develop a detailed action plan and timeline for the implementation of the Employee Relations Center of Expertise.

  • Outline key milestones, deliverables, and success metrics for the project.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and support for the initiative.

Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Foster a collaborative environment and work closely with other HR functions, such as legal, HRC, HR systems, Talex, compensation, L&D Respect in the workplace, H&S, disability, HRDirect etc to ensure a holistic approach to employee relations.


Communication and Reporting:

  • Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on the progress of the Employee Relations Center of Expertise.

  • Develop and implement communication strategies to keep HR employees informed about changes and improvements in employee relations center of experties.


What
you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Human Resources, with a focus on employee relations.

  • Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting internal assessments and market research (asset).

  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and provincial labor laws and regulations.

  • Proven track record of developing and implementing strategic HR initiatives.

  • Strong project management skill.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to think strategically and translate strategy into actionable plans.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Proficiency in HR software and tools.

  • Bilingualism in French and English is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with colleagues across the country.
