About the Role

We are seeking a Registered Nurse, Surgical Services to join our team in the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU).

The successful candidate will provide direct nursing care to patients recovering from anaesthetics by assessing, planning, providing, coordinating and evaluating nursing care.

This role requires clinical proficiency in the designated clinical area, proficiency in initiating and maintaining Intravenous Therapy, and ability to recognize acuity changes.

In addition, the ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians and other personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess post anaesthetic patients by collecting and evaluating information from a variety of sources using skills of observation, communication, data review and physical assessment.
  • Makes a nursing diagnosis of the patient's condition and determines whether improvement or resolution can be determined by an appropriate nursing intervention.
  • Plans, performs, evaluates and documents nursing interventions and care.
  • Provides nursing care to address critical care needs of patients according to physicians' and anaesthetists' orders, and in conformance with established standards and hospital policies.
  • Communicates and shares information with interdisciplinary health care team members; collaborates with members of the interprofessional care team including Physicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Patient Care Coordinator, Clinical Nurse Educators, and other health care professionals/providers in the identification and resolution of issues, adjustments to care plans as required, and in regard to changes in patient condition.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • One (1) year's recent relevant clinical nursing experience in the designated clinical area and completion of post graduate course work and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
