The estimated annual salary for this position is CAD $83,648 - $117,144 per year, based on a 35-hour workweek and 52 weeks of employment.

Job Description

As an Emergency Nurse Specialist with Fraser Health, you will be responsible for providing direct patient care in our emergency department. Your duties will include assessing patients, collecting information, and making nursing diagnoses. You will also plan, perform, and evaluate nursing interventions and care.

  • You will collaborate with patients and their families/care givers to develop care plans and encourage family participation in care planning.
  • You will establish a therapeutic relationship by demonstrating empathy, trust, and respect, advocating for patients' rights to privacy, dignity, and access to information.
  • You will participate in care and discharge planning processes, ensuring comprehensive care planning and delivery.
  • You will coordinate nursing care, set priorities, assign and delegate tasks to support staff, and make referrals according to established protocols and practice standards.
  • You will teach patients and families/care givers about illness prevention, health restoration, and health maintenance.
  • You will document assessments, nursing diagnoses, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A degree in nursing from an approved school of nursing.
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of applicable post-graduate coursework in emergency or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in emergency.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team.
  • Ability to promote person-centered care, demonstrating empathy, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, and patient advocacy.
  • Ability to integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problem-solve effectively.
  • Ability to teach and instruct patients and families/care givers about topics essential to their health care and well-being.
