Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Psychiatric Liaison Nurse Specialist to join our team at Fraser Health.

The successful candidate will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing critical care to patients with psychiatric emergencies. This is a part-time opportunity based in Langley, where you will be working closely with interprofessional teams to deliver person-centered and recovery-oriented care.

About the Job

In accordance with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice, you will perform intake assessments, crisis intervention, and direct patient care to psychiatric patients in the Emergency Department and/or MH&SUS zone. You will also provide input into effective patient flow for assessed and admitted psychiatric patients, ensuring timely transfers to inpatient units.

Responsibilities
  • Perform psychosocial assessments and collect collateral information related to patients' primary support groups, social environments, occupations, education, housing, finances, health service access, and legal problems.
  • Develop care plans with final dispositions authorized by Emergency Department Physicians or consulting Psychiatrists, and provide general and crisis counseling to patients and their families.
  • Evaluate psychiatric nursing care needs of assigned patients and provide direct psychiatric nursing care, identifying preventative, therapeutic, and rehabilitative aspects of care.
  • Collaborate with Emergency Department staff and other allied health department service providers in hospitals and communities to adapt care plans addressing psychiatric needs.
Qualifications

We require a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse with current practicing registration from the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). A minimum of one year recent experience in acute or community Mental Health & Substance Use settings is preferred.

Candidates should possess excellent communication skills, empathy for patients/families/caregivers, and sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences. Experience with violence de-escalation, suicide prevention, and restraint practices is an asset.
