Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Indigenous Support Teacher to join our team at School District #63 (Saanich). The successful candidate will have a strong background in Math and Science, as well as experience working with Indigenous students and communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide academic and personal support to Indigenous students, focusing on literacy, numeracy, and life skills development.
  • Develop and implement culturally responsive teaching practices to promote student engagement and success.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, fostering partnerships and raising cultural awareness in the school.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop and implement inclusive programs and services.
  • Manage documentation and processing requirements associated with the Indigenous Support Program.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Education (Secondary) degree.
  • Two years of successful classroom experience at the secondary level.
  • Knowledge of local Saanich Indigenous Communities.
  • Significant leadership experience in developing and enhancing Indigenous community and cultural awareness.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing connections and partnerships with Indigenous Communities.
  • Effective communication skills, demonstrated through positive relationships with students, staff, parents/guardians, and the community.
  • Strong administrative skills to manage documentation and processing requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with Indigenous students and communities.
  • Knowledge of the Principles of Inclusive Schools and Principles of Learning.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and cultural awareness.
