Indigenous Support Teacher Opportunity

School District No. 63 is seeking a dedicated Indigenous Support Teacher to join our On-Call list. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational needs of Indigenous students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide academic and cultural support to Indigenous students
  • Develop and implement culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to enhance Indigenous student outcomes
  • Build relationships with local Indigenous communities and organizations
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills
Requirements:
  • Valid BC Teaching Certificate
  • Commitment to supporting the full range of student abilities
  • Effective communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
  • Successful experience adapting and modifying materials for diverse learners
  • Working knowledge of using computing technology to support learning
  • Commitment to the Principles of Inclusive Schools and Principles of Learning
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Education
  • Two years successful classroom experience
  • Knowledge of local Saanich Indigenous Communities
  • Significant leadership experience in developing and enhancing Indigenous community and cultural awareness

In accordance with Human Rights Commission Exemption Section 19(2), preference will be given to applicants with Indigenous ancestry who have knowledge of local history and culture. The successful candidate must be able to relate positively with the Indigenous community on a daily basis.
