Job Summary

School District #63 (Saanich) is seeking a qualified Indigenous Support Teacher to join our on-call list. This position requires a strong commitment to supporting the educational needs of Indigenous students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide educational support to Indigenous students in a variety of settings, including classrooms and community-based programs.
  • Develop and implement culturally responsive teaching practices that promote academic success and social-emotional well-being.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and community partners to ensure that Indigenous students receive comprehensive support services.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to Indigenous education and cultural awareness.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of district-wide initiatives that promote Indigenous student success.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent.
  • Two years of successful teaching experience, preferably in an Indigenous-focused setting.
  • Knowledge of local Saanich Indigenous communities and their histories, cultures, and traditions.
  • Significant leadership experience, preferably in relation to developing and enhancing Indigenous community and cultural awareness.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Indigenous students, families, and community members.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and mutual respect.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Indigenous ancestry and knowledge of local history and culture.
  • Experience working with Indigenous students in a variety of settings, including classrooms and community-based programs.
  • Knowledge of district and provincial policies and procedures related to Indigenous education.
