Job Summary

School District #63 (Saanich) is seeking a qualified Indigenous Support Teacher to join our on-call list. This position requires a strong commitment to supporting the educational needs of Indigenous students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide educational support to Indigenous students in a variety of settings, including classrooms and community-based programs.
  • Develop and implement culturally responsive teaching practices that promote academic success and social-emotional well-being.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and community members to develop and implement culturally responsive educational programs.
  • Provide leadership and support to teachers and staff in developing their knowledge and skills related to Indigenous education.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local Indigenous communities and organizations to promote cultural awareness and understanding.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent.
  • Two years of successful teaching experience, preferably in an Indigenous-focused setting.
  • Knowledge of local Saanich Indigenous communities and cultures.
  • Significant leadership experience, preferably in relation to developing and enhancing Indigenous community and cultural awareness.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing connections and partnerships with Indigenous communities and raising cultural awareness in schools.
  • Effective communication skills, demonstrated through positive relationships with students, staff, parents/guardians, and the community.
  • Strong administrative skills to manage the ongoing documentation processing requirements associated with the Indigenous Support Program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Indigenous ancestry and knowledge of local history and culture.
  • Experience working with Indigenous students and communities.
