About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Scientist to join our team at the University of Toronto. As a Research Scientist, you will play a key role in advancing the field of AI-driven autonomous discovery and developing the materials and molecules required to address society's largest challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop research programs that leverage our self-driving laboratories (SDLs) and support the research objectives of our faculty and industry partners.
  • Use SDLs to synthesize and characterize large quantities of candidate molecules, calibrate theoretical models with experimental data, predict promising candidates with computational tools and machine learning algorithms, and elucidate structure-property relationships of emerging molecules, polymers, solid-state materials, formulations, etc.
  • Implement research and development projects of our industry partners when implemented in our labs.
  • Develop plans that support research collaborations and plan and estimate financial resources required for programs and/or projects.
  • Work with Product Managers to ensure research outcomes meet partner requirements.
  • Promote our research capacity, including delivering presentations at conferences.
  • Collaborate in the preparation and submission of research proposals to granting agencies and progress reporting.
  • Prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications/journals and steward them through the process.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in engineering, chemistry, physics, computer science, or a related discipline.
  • 1 to 5 years of experience (inclusive of PhD and/or post-graduate work) in accelerated research and development with demonstrated academic and research excellence.
  • Experience working with industry partners and on industry-led research and development projects.
  • Expert knowledge of AI and automation and experience with the development of self-driving laboratories.
  • Experience presenting research at academic conferences.
  • Strong and effective communicator in oral and written English.
  • Collegial in working with team members and collaborators.
  • Ability to work independently.
