Position Overview:
The University of Toronto is seeking a highly skilled Staff Research Scientist specializing in Organic Synthesis for a term of two years. This role is integral to the Acceleration Consortium, a pioneering initiative aimed at revolutionizing scientific research through the integration of advanced technologies.

The Acceleration Consortium (AC) is at the forefront of a transformative approach to scientific exploration, combining the expertise of academia, industry, and government. By harnessing cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and high-throughput chemistry, the AC is dedicated to developing self-driving laboratories that facilitate rapid material and molecule discovery.

Key Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will:

  • Engage in the synthesis and purification of complex organic small molecules.
  • Utilize high-throughput methods for organic synthesis and processing.
  • Characterize synthesized molecules through various analytical techniques.
  • Explore innovative synthetic technologies, including flow chemistry and photochemistry.

Desired Expertise:
Applicants should possess a strong background in:

  • Multi-step synthesis and purification techniques.
  • AI and automation applications in material discovery.
  • Robotics and experimental design.

Collaboration and Research Development:
The Staff Research Scientist will collaborate with a diverse team of experts, contributing to the development of research programs that leverage the capabilities of the AC's self-driving laboratories. Responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and implementing research projects aligned with the objectives of the AC.
  • Collaborating with industry partners to fulfill research needs.

Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in engineering, chemistry, physics, computer science, or a related field, with a proven track record in accelerated research and development. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential.
