Position Overview:
The University of Toronto is seeking a highly skilled Staff Research Scientist specializing in Organic Synthesis for a term of two years. This role is part of the Acceleration Consortium, a pioneering initiative aimed at transforming scientific discovery through innovative technologies.

About the Acceleration Consortium:
The Acceleration Consortium (AC) is a collaborative network that integrates academia, industry, and government to harness the capabilities of artificial intelligence, robotics, and advanced materials science. Our mission is to develop self-driving laboratories that facilitate rapid material and molecule discovery, addressing critical global challenges such as climate change and public health.

Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will engage in the following:

  • SDL and Automation Development: Collaborate with faculty and partners to define the capabilities required for self-driving laboratories. Design and implement novel instruments for automated synthesis and characterization of materials.
  • Research Direction: Formulate research programs that utilize the SDLs to synthesize and characterize candidate molecules. Employ computational tools and machine learning algorithms to predict promising candidates and elucidate structure-property relationships.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with a diverse team of experts, contributing to research proposals, presenting findings at conferences, and preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications:
Education: A Ph.D. in engineering, chemistry, physics, computer science, or a related field is required.
Experience: Candidates should possess 1 to 5 years of relevant experience in accelerated research and development, with a proven track record of academic excellence and industry collaboration.

Desired Skills:
Expertise in organic small molecules, high-throughput synthesis, and characterization techniques is essential. Familiarity with AI and automation technologies, as well as strong communication skills, will be advantageous.
