About the Role

The Pediatric Emergency Nurse Specialist will provide direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care to pediatric patients in a pediatric emergency unit and/or pediatric emergency observation unit. This role involves conducting comprehensive nursing assessments, making nursing diagnoses, and developing care plans that meet the unique needs of each patient.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough nursing assessments of pediatric patients on admission and at regular intervals to identify potential health risks and develop effective care plans.
  • Collaborate with patients, families/caregivers, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care delivery and address any concerns or questions they may have.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans that take into account the unique needs and preferences of each patient, including their medical history, cultural background, and personal values.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families/caregivers to empower them to make informed decisions about their care and manage their condition effectively.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to continuously improve the quality of care provided to pediatric patients and contribute to a culture of excellence within the organization.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Two years' recent, related clinical nursing experience in the designated clinical area and completion of post-graduate coursework and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in initiating Intravenous Therapy and maintenance of Intravenous Therapy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/caregivers, and healthcare professionals using verbal, written, and electronic communication means.
  • Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families/caregivers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, and patient advocacy.

Salary Information

The estimated salary range for this position is $59.52 per hour. Please note that salaries may vary based on location, experience, and qualifications.
