Medical Records Coordinator

SalaryThe estimated salary for this position is CAD $28.31 per hour, based on industry standards and regional factors.
About the RoleThis clinical support specialist will perform a variety of clerical duties related to the operation of a patient care area, including registering patients, acting as a communication link, transcribing and processing physicians' orders, coordinating with other departments and facilities, and maintaining patient charts.
Key Responsibilities- Perform registration duties as required, including receiving patients, obtaining and confirming necessary information, and registering patients in the computerized admission/discharge/transfer system.
- Prioritize, process, coordinate, and transcribe physicians' orders by copying information, completing required forms, and entering data into the computer system.
- Schedule, book, and coordinate appointments, arrange patient tests, and maintain appointment diaries.
- Act as a communication link for the assigned area, contacting other facilities and departments to exchange information and facilitate admissions, discharges, and patient transfers.
- Assemble and maintain patient charts according to established procedures, attaching relevant documents and transcribing patient data into applicable health records systems.
- Perform related clerical duties, including answering phones, taking messages, opening and distributing mail, and maintaining timekeeping records for regular and casual staff.
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
- A Grade 12 diploma or equivalent, medical terminology knowledge, and completion of a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program.
- One year of recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, including keyboarding at 40 wpm and operating related equipment.
