Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Academic Information Specialist to join our team at the University of Niagara Falls Canada. As a key member of our library staff, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional information literacy instruction and research support to our students and faculty.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching course-integrated library instruction sessions, collaborating with faculty and library staff to create student-centered information literacy curriculum, and evaluating, recommending, and selecting electronic resources to support the teaching and research needs of our community.

Responsibilities
  • Information Literacy Instruction:
    • Collaborate with faculty and library staff to create and maintain a student-centered information literacy curriculum.
    • Develop and teach course-integrated library instruction sessions for classes across campus disciplines, both in person and online.
    • Provide training sessions for Library staff on range of IL topics, pedagogy, tools, etc.
  • Collection Management:
    • Develop and maintain a collection of electronic resources that support the teaching and research needs of our community.
    • Evaluate, recommend, and select materials to ensure they meet the needs of our students and faculty.
  • Reference and Research Assistance:
    • Provide scheduled Services Desk shifts to assist with circulation and reference inquiries.
    • Offer one-on-one research consultations to provide in-depth research support to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Scholarship:
    • Publish peer-reviewed papers in relevant journals.
    • Develop workshops, give presentations, and present papers at library conferences.
  • Service:
    • Participate in library committees, university committees, or professional organizations.
Requirements
  • Masters degree in Library and Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent.
  • At least one to three years' experience in reference service and information literacy instruction, preferably in an academic library.
  • Working knowledge of face-to-face and online pedagogy, and teaching and learning strategies at the university level.
  • Knowledge of current technologies such as LibGuides, media creation, reference chat, social media, etc.
