Job Title: Early Childhood Development Officer

Job Summary:

The Government of Nunavut is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Early Childhood Development Officer to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the territory-wide delivery of early childhood programs and services targeting children from birth to age six, and children up to 12 years of age in licensed out-of-school programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the quality of care for children by inspecting, licensing, and providing support and guidance to early childhood programs.
  • Actively promote awareness of early childhood issues within communities.
  • Support community-based non-profit organizations to plan, develop, and deliver quality / culturally appropriate early childhood education and care programs.
  • Encourage the parents of young students to continue working towards their high school diploma.
  • Promote the concept of families as strong places for early childhood development and the development of language, culture, values, and beliefs.
  • Deliver programs such as the Early Childhood, Healthy Children Initiatives (HCI), and Young Parents Stay Learning (YPSL) programs.
  • Ensure facilities and programs meet the required standards as defined through Nunavut's Child Day Care Act.
  • Conduct early childhood facility inspections, including review of registration documents, policies, records.
  • Investigate complaints about facilities and programs and take action as required.

Requirements:

  • Recognized Diploma in Early Childhood Education.
  • Three (3) years of applicable administrative or early childhood education experience.
  • Completion of First Aid, Infant/child CPR training during the probationary period.
  • Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages (Inuktut, English, French) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

Priority will be given to Nunavut Inuit who self-identify as being enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement in accordance with the Priority Hiring Policy.
