Job Summary

The Government of Nunavut is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Early Childhood Programs Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our Early Childhood Development team, you will play a critical role in the delivery of early childhood programs and services across Nunavut.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement territory-wide early childhood programs and services targeting children from birth to age six and children up to 12 years of age in licensed out-of-school programs.
  • Inspect, license, and provide support and guidance to early childhood programs to ensure quality care for children.
  • Support the Manager in identifying opportunities for increasing the availability and affordability of child care across Nunavut.
  • Promote awareness of early childhood issues within Nunavut communities and support community-based non-profit organizations to plan and develop quality early childhood education and care programs.
  • Support the Department in the application of its Project Management Process Administrative Directive and participate in committees related to the activities of the Division and/or the Department.
  • Monitor early childhood programs and services to ensure compliance with the directions and provisions of the Child Day Care Act and Regulations, as well as other applicable legislation, regulations, directives, policies, and procedures.
Requirements
  • Recognized college diploma in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in Early Learning and Child Care or a related field (e.g., education, social work).
  • Completion of First Aid and Infant/Child CPR training during the probationary period.
  • Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages (Inuktut, English, and French) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
