Job Summary

The Government of Nunavut is seeking a highly skilled Early Childhood Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Early Childhood Development team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality early childhood programs and services across the territory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement territory-wide early childhood programs and services targeting children from birth to age six and children up to 12 years of age in licensed out-of-school programs.
  • Inspect, license, and provide support and guidance to early childhood programs to ensure quality care for children.
  • Support the Manager in identifying opportunities for increasing the availability and affordability of child care across Nunavut.
  • Promote awareness of early childhood issues within Nunavut communities and support community-based non-profit organizations to plan and develop quality early childhood education and care programs.
  • Ensure that services and supports provided reflect Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles and support the establishment and initial licensing of new child care centers.
Requirements
  • Recognized college diploma in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in Early Learning and Child Care or a related field.
  • First Aid and Infant/Child CPR training required.
  • Experience with consulting and coordinating with partner organizations, implementation coordination, and program facilitation or project management.
  • Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles.
Assets
  • Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages.
  • Experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment.
  • Knowledge of Inuktut and experience working with Inuit organizations.
