Mental Health and Substance Use Clinical Counsellor

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Counsellor to join our team at Fraser Health. As a Clinical Counsellor, you will provide consultation, assessment, and short-term case management services to individuals and families affected by serious and persistent mental disorders and/or substance misuse.
Key Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive clinical counselling and psychotherapy to clients affected by mental illness and/or addictions.
- Assess client needs and available services, and contribute to the shared care plan with the client's input.
- Screen referrals from the interdisciplinary team, gather background information, and determine service priorities.
- Provide short-term brief interventions, follow-up, monitor, and evaluate treatment outcomes.
- Deliver group therapy and education sessions to clients and their families.
- Identify gaps and problems with service and recommend solutions to assist in the development and maintenance of a coordinated mental health care system within the community.
- Provide education on mental health issues to interdisciplinary shared care teams and other stakeholders.
- Masters in Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline from an accredited educational institution.
- Two years of recent related experience in community and/or hospital settings providing programs for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders.
- Comprehensive clinical counselling and therapy skills, including crisis counselling.
- Demonstrated clinical skills in working with the seriously mentally ill.
- Thorough knowledge of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as a therapeutic modality.
