Job Title: Youth Support Specialist
Location: York Region, Ontario, Canada
Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 per annum, depending on experience
We are seeking a qualified Youth Support Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will work with our Relief Youth Workers in various programs to provide client-centered support to youth in drop-in, emergency shelter, and SHINE environments.
The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary degree or diploma in a child/youth related field, minimum two years' experience working with at-risk or street-involved youth, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Assess immediate needs of youth and provide basic necessities like food, bedding, and hygiene.
- Respond to incidents, resolve conflicts, and follow up on case plans, goals, and activities.
- Create and maintain a clean and welcoming environment for youth in care.
- Provide life skills training, support, and mentoring to help youth achieve success.
- Complete daily documentation and statistics.
- Help youth access community resources and make referrals as needed.
- Encourage and support youth to break cycles of poverty and homelessness.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in a child/youth related field.
- Minimum two years' experience working with at-risk or street-involved youth.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to unique qualities of each client.
- Familiarity with harm reduction principles and trauma-informed care.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification and vulnerable sector screening.
