Program Overview

The YOUTHrive program is a free drop-in service offered five days a week during after-school hours for children aged 7-12 and youth aged 13-18, residing in social housing communities across York Region.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Youth Worker to join our team. This is a Relief position operating Mondays-Fridays from 3:00pm-7:00pm. However, during school PA days, winter break, March break, and summer break, the program operates during the day for 7 hours.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Delivery: Provide mentorship to youth through informal counselling services, job search support, homework assistance, and basic life skills.
  • Site Management: Day-to-day organization and operation at assigned sites, including on-site supervision of staff, participants, and volunteers.
  • Life Skills Programming: Coordinates, develops, and facilitates weekly, biweekly, and monthly life skills programming for youth.
  • Counselling and Support: Provides one-on-one counselling, acts as a positive role model, and advocates on behalf of clients for support, services, and benefits with internal and external resources.
  • Community Outreach: Facilitates community collaboration with key partners, builds capacity for partnerships, and connects with staff from other programs and community agencies.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Completes daily documentation, statistical data collection, and registration forms, providing regular reports to Team Leads as required.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • A Post-Secondary degree/diploma in a child/youth-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience working with at-risk youth.
  • Minimum one year's experience working with at-risk youth and/or street-involved people, with advanced knowledge of issues relating to activities of street-involved people and relevant legislation.
  • Strong personal ethics, integrity, and exceptional interpersonal skills, including influencing, consensus/team building, facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, management, leadership, motivation, delegation, coaching/mentoring, and empowerment.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, with all levels of staff, the public, and clients, while maintaining objectivity.
  • Case management skills, including record keeping, client service, building capacity through a team approach.
  • Ability to work as a team member in a dynamic, complex environment and organize time and workload effectively.
  • Experience with MS Office, with the ability to prepare and write reports and maintain same.
Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $45,000 - $55,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
