We provide a unique continuum of care approach with programs and services essential to the health and well-being of youth. Our Connections center in Richmond Hill is a one-stop hub where at-risk youth can access safe housing, support services, and resources to help them get back on their feet.

The Role: As a Youth Support Specialist, you'll work with our team to provide supervision and basic needs to young people emerging from crisis. You'll assess immediate needs, offer support, and help residents achieve success in transitioning to secure housing.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing a safe environment and meeting basic needs such as food, bedding, and hygiene.
  • Responding to immediate needs and resolving conflicts in a supportive manner.
  • Following up with youth regarding their case plan, goals, and activities, and making referrals or warm transfers as required.
  • Completing intakes using HIFIS to determine eligibility for emergency housing and assessing any immediate needs.
  • Working with youth to identify their housing needs and connect them with relevant supports.
  • Making referrals to internal programs and external services, such as counseling, employment, and education initiatives.
  • Encouraging youth to address challenges in their lives and providing ongoing support to maintain their housing.

Requirements: To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field, such as Child and Youth Work, Social Service Worker, or Psychology.
  • Minimum two years' experience working with at-risk or street-involved youth.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles and trauma-informed care.
  • Counseling skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to advocate for clients and make professional referrals.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification and vulnerable sector screening.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean abstract and liability insurance (asset).
