Job Summary

The Mental Health Program Worker plays a vital role in delivering responsive mental health and wellness services to newcomers. As a member of our team, you will provide one-on-one direct services, information, and referrals to clients with mental health needs. You will also conduct group activities that promote coping strategies, mutual support, skill building, and self-help opportunities.

This position requires collaboration with the Mental Health Specialist and Program Manager to address mental health challenges among newcomers. You will work under supervision and contribute to increasing the agency's capacity to respond to newcomer mental health needs through outreach and training.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with mental health-related activities within the organization
  • Review client background information, interview clients, and prepare intake reports and needs assessments
  • Meet with clients to assess their progress, provide support, and referrals
  • Assist clients in developing an action plan and provide necessary support and assistance
  • In collaboration with the team, plan, organize, and facilitate group activities on newcomer mental health topics
  • Refer clients to community mental health and social services and assist them in utilizing resources
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of referrals and provide follow-up services
  • Conduct outreach to increase awareness of services and recruit newcomer clients
  • Maintain program statistics and case notes while preserving confidentiality
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you must possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as social work or counseling
  • 3-5 years of experience working with newcomers supporting mental health in a community setting
  • Experience facilitating workshops and group programming, including assisting with design
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening within the past six months
  • Fluency in languages other than English is an asset
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and databases
  • Membership in the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario is an asset
  • Authorization to work in Canada
Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $28.66-$30.41 per hour, reflecting the value we place on your expertise and dedication. Our benefits package includes a comprehensive compensation package that reflects the agency's commitment to employee well-being.

Work Environment

You will work in-person at one or more sites, depending on public health conditions. Proficiency in technology and online tools is essential for this role, including Zoom, Google Meets, and other platforms. You must be able to support clients in participating in virtual programs using technology and online tools.
