Job Summary

This role will provide strategic direction, leadership, and oversight for Real Estate Secured Credit Risk ensuring business strategies, plans, and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. The successful candidate will also provide Bank-wide oversight of credit policies, models, and processes and controls used to assess and mitigate risk.

The role requires a direct contribution to the credit quality of the Bank by establishing, executing, monitoring, and testing strategies and policies for origination and account management. Additionally, the individual will participate in Canadian Retail Senior Credit Committees and local retail credit committees with Business Executives.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where you can contribute to defining the credit risk appetite for all main product groups and facilitate reporting and analysis that ensure the portfolios are performing with acceptable risk measures. You will proactively and systematically screen the retail portfolios and markets for emerging and long-run trends which require action – develop and implement plans to adjust risk-taking or mitigating as required.

The estimated salary for this position is $170,000 - $200,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction, leadership, and oversight for Real Estate Secured Credit Risk
  • Contribute to defining the credit risk appetite for all main product groups
  • Facilitate reporting and analysis to ensure portfolio performance meets acceptable risk measures
  • Screen retail portfolios and markets for emerging trends and develop plans to address them
  • Direct due diligence process for credit mergers/portfolio acquisitions
  • Collaborate with Risk colleagues on model development and implementation
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Graduate University degree in business or economics
  • 10-15 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to design and interpret information/data
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to articulate viewpoint/opinions to all levels within Scotiabank and externally
