Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking an experienced Assistant Shift Engineer - Second Class to join the Power Plant team at Vancouver General Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating, repairing, and maintaining a high-pressure, high-temperature power plant with a capacity of 2890 boiler horsepower.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain boilers, feed water pumps, turbines, power distribution centers, and related auxiliary equipment.
  • Provide work direction to Assistant Shift Engineers by coordinating work activities, providing guidance, technical advice, training, and orientation.
  • Ensure compliance with the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act and Regulations.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 plus five years' recent related experience in a first-class industrial plant.
  • Second (2nd) Class Power Engineer's Certificate of Competency.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret single-line drawings.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
