Job Summary
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking an experienced Assistant Shift Engineer - Second Class to join the Power Plant team at Vancouver General Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating, repairing, and maintaining a high-pressure, high-temperature primary combined cycle power plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain a high-pressure (600psig+) and high-temperature (750 F Superheat) primary combined cycle power plant, ensuring compliance with the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act and Regulations.
- Provide work direction to Assistant Shift Engineers, coordinating work activities, providing guidance, technical advice, training, and orientation.
- Collaborate with the Manager, Plant Operations to develop and implement operational strategies and procedures.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of boilers, feed water pumps, turbines, power distribution centers, and related auxiliary equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs, and troubleshoot equipment issues.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Grade 12 diploma and five years of recent experience in a first-class industrial plant.
- A Second (2nd) Class Power Engineer's Certificate of Competency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to read and interpret single-line drawings.
- Ability to organize work and prioritize tasks.
