Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a highly skilled Assistant Shift Engineer - Third Class to join the Power Plant team at Vancouver General Hospital. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for operating, repairing, and maintaining a high-pressure, high-temperature primary combined cycle power plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the Shift Engineer - Second Class to operate, repair, and maintain the power plant, ensuring compliance with the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Operate boilers, feed water pumps, turbines, power distribution centers, and related auxiliary equipment to produce steam and primary power.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including inspections, repairs, and replacements of equipment and components.
  • Collaborate with the Shift Engineer - Second Class to develop and implement maintenance schedules and plans.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and any issues or concerns.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Grade 12 plus three years' recent related experience in a second-class industrial plant.
  • Third (3rd) Class Power Engineer's Certificate of Competency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with others.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including lifting, bending, and working at heights.
  • Ability to read and interpret single-line drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
