Job Summary

The Director, Employee and Labour Relations will provide strategic leadership and direction for Labour Relations, Total Compensation, and Wellness and Abilities at Algonquin College.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer the Collective Agreements for Academic and Support Staff of the College and related employee relations matters.
  • Provide labour law interpretation, progressive discipline, and termination guidance to management.
  • Investigate human rights complaints, workplace harassment, and employee conduct issues.
  • Develop and maintain systems for effective processing of grievances and collective agreement matters.
  • Collect and analyze data to support provincial negotiations of collective agreements.
  • Develop and offer professional development opportunities for managers and HR representatives in labour relations and collective agreement articles.
  • Oversee investigations into employee relations issues and provide risk assessments and mitigation solutions.
  • Develop and implement Employee Compensation, Pension, and Benefits programs for the College.
  • Provide oversight of the Wellness and Abilities Programs, including mental health and wellness strategy, disability management, and accommodation processes.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources Management, or a related field.
  • CHRL Designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 13 years of experience in labour relations, with 10 years at the management level.
  • Excellent management, leadership, and negotiation skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of HR management practices, procedures, and principles.
  • Exceptional conflict resolution and mediation skills.
  • Ability to work in a unionized, collegial environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of collective agreements, labour law, and human rights legislation.
