Director of Labour Relations and HR

About the Role:
This is a senior leadership position that oversees the Labour Relations function at NAV CANADA. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining a team of Labour Relations/HR professionals who can deliver high-quality services and programs in a cost-effective manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Labour Relations strategies that align with the company's business objectives.
- Provide strategic advice to senior leaders on complex Labour Relations issues.
- Oversee the HR business partner function to ensure alignment between HR initiatives and business needs.
- Lead cross-divisional cultural change initiatives to promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Provide professional advice and support to field HR, unions, employees, and client groups to achieve optimum labour-management relations.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive union consultation process that meets the current and long-term needs of the company.
- Promote long-term partnerships with NAV CANADA's labour unions.
- Advise, facilitate, and monitor organizational changes to ensure collective agreement compliance and union notification.
- Manage and monitor national union management committees.
- Provide functional leadership and execution of the grievance and arbitration process company-wide.
- Support the negotiations process.
- Lead the education of management on effective conflict resolution techniques and Labour Relations management.
- Coach and maintain a productive and professional team to meet the requirements of the company's Labour Relations activities.
- Ensure the continuing development of competencies and business acumen for the members of the Labour Relations team.
Requirements:
- Advanced degree in Human Resources Management or Business Administration.
- SPHR certification.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in Human Resources, with 10+ years at the leadership level in a corporate environment.
- Experience supporting leadership teams in multi-stakeholder and regulated environments.
- Proven ability to resolve complex employee relations issues.
- Excellent negotiation and mediation skills.
- Culturally sensitive and knowledgeable of human resources issues, including diverse regulatory and cultural issues and operating practices.
- Ability to engender trust and respect quickly as a manager of people with a priority for the development of staff across levels of the organization.
- Extremely organized and detail-oriented.
- Ability to multitask priorities and meet deadlines.
- Foster an environment of teamwork with proven ability to hold people accountable for results and provide periodic performance feedback.
- Talent for working collaboratively and effectively with senior management, Board Directors, and staff.
- Respected people leader with a positive and transparent team-oriented style, comfortable using a variety of communications tools to reach a broad cross-section of stakeholders.
- Commands respect and achieves final resolutions that do not compromise core business unit or organizational objectives.
- Bilingualism in both official languages is preferred but not essential.
Working Conditions:
- This position is based at NAV CANADA's Head Office in Ottawa but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
- Occasional travel required.
