Project Accountant Job Description

Robert Half is seeking a skilled Project Accountant to join their client's dynamic team in the Construction/Residential/Commercial industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and enter monthly HST entries
  • Track HST/ITC notices of assessment and match receipts against filings
  • Assist with preparation of responses for CRA reviews of HST filings
  • Intercompany account reconciliations, analyses for monthly balance sheets and income statements for management reporting
  • Project updates for management and external stakeholders
  • Bank reconciliation preparation
  • Tracking deposits on residential sales
  • Closing statement of adjustments (SOA)
  • Tracking closing of units
  • Budget changes for residential projects into the accounting system
  • Monthly financial close workbooks
  • Requests for further information from financial reporting division
  • Reviewing or auditing project costs
  • Ad-hoc reporting and special projects
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education in accounting and finance
  • Actively enrolled in the CPA PEP level or completion of program
  • Ability to work within spreadsheets and databases
  • Good understanding of monthly financial reporting
  • Command of month-end close activities
  • Proven knowledge of commercial construction projects
  • Proficiency in corporate income tax
  • Well-founded grasp of construction projects
  • Intercompany accounting experience
  • Previous experience working with project cost
  • HST experience desired
  • Account reconciliation experience
  • Quality experience with income statements
  • Practical knowledge of bank reconciliations
  • Earlier work involving account adjustments
  • General familiarity with construction project accounting
  • Wide-ranging experience with monthly financial statements
  • Skills in Microsoft Excel
  • 3+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience
  • Skilled with ERP systems
  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases
  • Vow to meet business deadlines
  • Outstanding analytical, quantitative and social skills
  • Outstanding organizational, written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment
  • High attention to detail
