International Student Advisor and Immigration Specialist

Job Summary:
York University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as an International Student Advisor and Immigration Specialist. This role will provide critical support to international students, scholars, and permanent residents, ensuring a smooth transition to university life in Canada. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of Canadian immigration legislation and policies, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Key Responsibilities:
• Provide expert advice and guidance on Canadian immigration issues, including study permits, work permits, and permanent residence.
• Develop and deliver educational workshops and programs to support international students in navigating Canadian immigration regulations and policies.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure seamless and knowledgeable services and referrals for international students.
• Maintain expertise in Citizenship and Immigration Canada updates, news, programs, and policies, and share or report within the department and university.
• Establish and maintain relationships with international students, scholars, and permanent residents, providing a high level of professionalism and customer service.
• Participate in the development and implementation of programs and services to support international students, including the creation of essential immigration information for the university website and related publications.
Requirements:
• University degree and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Immigration Consultant Certificate (in good standing with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC)) or Lawyers and Paralegals in good standing with a provincial or territorial law society, with a thorough understanding of immigration legislation, Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA), and its regulations (IRPR).
• Five years of related experience and direct experience working with international students at the post-secondary level, preferably in an intercultural environment. Fluency in other languages, including Mandarin and French, is an asset.
