Immigrant Education Pathway Specialist

George Brown College is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to join our team as an Immigrant and Transitional Education Pathway Specialist. This role is a critical part of our commitment to providing academic pathway advising to students in the School of ESL and Immigrant Education, as well as the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide academic pathway advising to students, empowering them with knowledge and tools to make informed decisions about their post-secondary education journeys.
- Collaborate with faculty, alumni, community agencies, and other departments in the college to plan and deliver group information sessions and workshops for students.
- Conduct 1:1 student advising appointments, supporting students in navigating the post-secondary education system, including guidance on external processes and internal processes.
- Refer students to appropriate services and resources as required, and collaborate with Admissions and other departments to facilitate student academic transitions.
- Provide program choice planning for students, based on knowledge of college systems, services, and programming.
- Maintain accurate records of student cases, including planning, student goals, action plans, and outcomes of applicant contact through an electronic advising database.
- Track student progress through their programming at GBC, actively supporting student retention, persistence, graduation, and success.
- Create and implement student satisfaction assessment methods, and develop digital materials to support student pathway navigation.
- Generate and review reports to inform School decision-making, and monitor articulation and internal pathway agreements to maximize student opportunities for successful transitions.
- Three-year diploma, degree, or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in Arts, Humanities, Social Services, Community Services, or Counselling.
- ESL training an asset.
- Minimum three (3) years of practical experience in a demanding service environment with experience advising students/applicants in an educational setting.
- Solid research, time management, planning, and coordination skills.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills at a professional level.
- Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College's priorities on diversity and equity.
