Job Summary:
York University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced International Student Advisor and Immigration Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our international student support team, you will provide expert advice and guidance to international students on Canadian immigration issues, including entry into Canada, study permits, and work permits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and timely information to international students on Canadian immigration policies and procedures.
- Advise students on entry into Canada, study permits, and work permits, including off-campus and post-graduate permits.
- Coordinate and provide services to refugees, domestic, and non-traditional or unique international student programs.
- Develop and maintain essential immigration information for international students and ensure accurate and up-to-date immigration information for the university website and related publications.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to provide seamless and knowledgeable services to international students.
- Participate in the development and implementation of programs and services to support international students' transition to York University and Canada.
- Stay up-to-date with current and emerging immigration legislation and interpretations, and provide expert advice to students and stakeholders.
Requirements:
- University degree and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Immigration Consultant Certificate (in good standing with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC)) or Lawyers and Paralegals in good standing with a provincial or territorial law society.
- Five years of related experience and direct experience working with international students at the post-secondary level.
- Experience in designing and conducting effective educational workshops, program development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse communities of students and promote inclusion.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret immigration legislation and university policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fluency in other languages, including Mandarin and French.
- Experience in managing the development of publications.
- Ability to work in a team environment and provide an integrated service delivery.
