Academic Writing Instructor for ESL Students

This course is designed to enhance the academic writing and critical reading skills of ESL students. Students will focus on grammar, composition, vocabulary building, and in-class writing, as well as research writing and documentation of sources. Additionally, the course will emphasize the practice of listening and speaking skills in English, including lecture note-taking strategies and opportunities to contribute to discussions and make short presentations.
ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant will be responsible for teaching and teaching-related duties, including course outline development, studio preparation, and delivery. This may include lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations, and final evaluations/reviews. The applicant must also ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.
QualificationsThe ideal candidate will have a terminal degree in a relevant field and/or equivalent professional experience. Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is an asset, as is demonstrated leadership and a commitment to promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment.
Terms of EmploymentSessional appointments are fixed-term annual contracts. Compensation includes a per-course pay scale with a salary level of $6,000 per 0.5 credit course, plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay. These positions are subject to budgetary approval and satisfactory enrolment levels.
