Position Overview:

The University of Toronto is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Writing Center Instructor. This position is essential for supporting students in enhancing their writing skills across various disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalized guidance to students in both individual and small group settings, focusing on aspects such as structure, argumentation, style, and language proficiency.
  • Facilitate group sessions aimed at improving general writing capabilities, as well as specific instruction related to particular college courses.
  • Support English language learners by delivering tailored instruction to meet their unique writing needs.

Position Details:

Available Positions: 1

Work Hours: 50 to 80 hours, subject to adjustment

Sessional Dates: Variable hours, Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 6 PM

Compensation: Competitive hourly rates based on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications:

Minimum: A completed graduate degree from an accredited institution is required.

Preferred: Experience in teaching writing, particularly in one-on-one settings or within university courses that include writing components. Familiarity with writing centers and experience in second-language instruction at the university level are advantageous. Background in teaching or studying science is considered a plus.

Note: This position is governed by the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, and preference will be given to qualified individuals advanced to higher ranks within the sessional lecturer framework.
