Position Overview: Woodsworth College is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Writing Instructor. This position involves working with students across various academic disciplines, providing guidance on their writing assignments. Instructors may also be tasked with conducting group sessions focused on enhancing general writing abilities or writing skills applicable across different subjects.

Available Positions: 3-5

Work Hours: The size of contracts will vary based on the instructor's experience, availability, and the needs of the Centre, typically ranging from 50 to approximately 200 hours. Additional hours may be offered later based on demand.

Scheduling: Hours will be arranged through mutual agreement, taking into account the Centre's requirements.

Compensation:

  1. Writing Instructor 1: $53.41 per hour, plus vacation pay
  2. Writing Instructor 1 Long Term: $56.07 per hour, plus vacation pay
  3. Writing Instructor 2: $57.42 per hour, plus vacation pay
  4. Writing Instructor 2 Long Term: $58.58 per hour, plus vacation pay
  5. Writing Instructor 2 (Priority): $59.11 per hour, plus vacation pay
  6. Writing Instructor 2 (Priority) Long Term: $60.29 per hour, plus vacation pay

Qualifications Required: A Master's degree along with relevant experience in one-on-one writing instruction and/or teaching university courses that emphasize writing. Experience in both areas is highly advantageous.

Preferred Qualifications: A PhD, familiarity with the specific programs and student demographics at Woodsworth College, and training in writing instruction across various disciplines, including second-language instruction at the university level.

Key Responsibilities: The primary responsibility of instructors in the Writing Centre is to provide individualized tutoring for university-level writing across all disciplines. This includes assisting students with topic responses, source utilization, organization, argumentation, style, and language proficiency. Instructors may also support students in developing study skills such as time management, note-taking, and exam preparation. Contracts will encompass tutoring responsibilities and may also include opportunities for conducting workshops or webinars focused on writing and study skills.
